Hi,
I am mostly doing geometric analysis on Optuma. So, I was thinking if there was a feature using which I could join multiple geometric shapes & be able to use it repeatedly, would be of great help.
Suppose, I draw an equilateral triangle & draw a vertical line from 3rd vertex & then join these two & save the drawing for future use, that way when I am drawing an equilateral triangle again, I don’t have to draw that vertical line every time. It’s a real-time saver.
(You might have a way to do that using coding on the user end but coding is not my forte. So “drawing joiner” as the in-built feature is much appreciated.)Thank you.

Hi Aritra,
You can add groups of tools to the tool bar. So you could hold down CTRL as you click on all the geo tools. Then in the Actions menu select “Save tools to Tool Bar” (I think that is the name). Then you can add them again. Now it will be an exact copy, so may not translate too well to different charts.
Also remember that you can set up Short Cut keys to add tools on your toolbar. So then once you have them set up, you can add these much faster.
In regard to the specific request, there are just too many complications with this that I can not see it being done.
All the best
Mathew

Hi Matthew,
I see this is similar to the combined drawing tool request I just submitted 🙂 Sorry, just saw this one. I do use the short cuts you suggested, but the issue, is more around trying to move these tools around on your chart, once they have been dropped onto it. As you then have to try and click each individual piece and reselect them all to move them. Understand that this could be a trickier one to implement though, but would be great to add at some point in the future 🙂
Thanks a mil

I started making some notes with a plan to come back to this when I had more time, but I’ve come up with an idea that may work. It will take a bit of programming and will not be available until Optuma 2.1 but I can see a lot of uses for this.
Basically, we add the ability to link the Control Points on tools. So in this menu below, we add a check box to say it is linked and then a Selector will appear that allows you to select a control point from another tool.
We can also make it that if you place a tool directly on top of an existing control point, they automatically become linked.
There are some challenges we will need to sort out, but it will not be as bad as I first thought.
All the best
Mathew

Hi Mathew,
thanks for your efforts to make a property available to link different drawing tools.
The linking of different drawing tools is especially helpful using the text box tool to combine different text boxes to one data label. Moving the combined data label would be much easier than moving each text box individually.
The following screenshot is an example of a data label with four text boxes combined in Optuma v2 beta. A little bite cumbersome to create but it looks great with the new bold text option in v2.
Best wishes,
